Having endured so many trials in her life and having been deprived of a life of joy and happiness, Sita grew weary of being doubted and she left both Ram and his kingdom and headed back into the jungle. A short while later she gave birth to Ram’s children - twins. Legend has it that Sita was found by her father as a baby in the furrows of the field and that she had been given birth by mother earth. After raising the twins, Sita prayed for salvation to her mother, the earth, which then opened and swallowed her up, thus taking her back. Similarly, Ram, when he grew old, realised that he had fulfilled all that he was born on earth, as an avatar, to do and he then calmly bade farewell to all and walked into a river to leave this earth forever, leaving behind his legacy and a name that would resonate for centuries, even on the lips of the great Mahatma Gandhi when he died.
